Vocalist Mr Ricardo Roberts, a Toco native and cousin to soca artiste Patrice Roberts, along with artistic group Cultural Collective has a wonderful present for Trinidad & Tobago – a virtual Christmas concert!
‘A Christmas Gift To The Nation’ concert is scheduled for December 20, at 8:00 p.m. and will be live streamed on Vimeo.
The first virtual concert for the group, under the direction of Mr Khai Jeffery, proceeds from the event will be donated to a few primary schools in the country to help provide laptops or iPads for students who are currently without these devices for their remote learning.
Students have been learning remotely since September as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, with some students unable to fully participate due to the lack of devices, electricity, and/or internet connection.
Mr Roberts, Mr Jeffery, and Ms Adafih Padmore will headline this concert which Mr Roberts insists will not be like a regular Christmas concert. Via email, he said viewers can expect a few traditional Christmas songs in the lineup such as Away In A Manger, Oh Come All Ye Faithful, and Silent Night along with a “few surprising acts.”
The group will decide how many schools and which schools will be blessed with the devices after the concert. “We will be leaving it up to the principals of each school that we are aiming to help to guide us on how many kids from the schools need [devices],” he said.
Mr Roberts is no stranger to putting on a show to lift people’s spirits. His own group, Curepe Invaders Performing Company, visited Toco three years ago for a performance and he personally hopes to return to the community with another presentation again.
“I will say ‘I am from Toco but lives St Augustine now,’ he said to The Toco Times about his connection to the community. “Personally I have no problem doing anything for Toco.”
But this Christmas, the entire country will be able to enjoy the soothing sounds of Mr Roberts and this dynamic group of performers from the Cultural Collective.
